Our Mission
Surfacescape is a New York-based non-profit art organization that creates multisensory, interactive art fairs for recent graduates and early-career artists. Each edition centers on a pressing social issue, inviting the public into an immersive, story-driven experience. We aim to connect young talent to the professional industry while expanding public engagement with the art world by making it fun and accessible.
Our Practice
Reflecting upon recent college protests, backlash from right-wing news outlets, and the heightened distrust towards the government among young people, our inaugural art fair is titled “Error Code 2026: System Defect”. Planned for 2026, our project invites all artworks that challenge injustice and oppression under American social and political systems.
All our featured artworks will be made by undergraduate-level or equivalent artists who have yet to enter the professional art world. We believe that great art fosters and supports younger artists to engage, challenge, or question existing structures. However, we noticed that most creative works by young adults remain unseen by the public. The current art world, dominated by the elite, expends opportunities and platforms for young artists. Our art exhibition aims to break the existing borders, allowing underrepresented artists to produce works that the public can access.
